01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Set along a street in Fushimi Ward's Yodo-Honmachi, close to Kyoto Racecourse, Misono operates as an izakaya centered on teppanyaki, okonomiyaki, and a varied spread of evening snacks. The dining room can fill quickly once doors open in the late afternoon, drawing visitors stopping by after the races as well as locals gathering for a relaxed meal.
Creative Variations on Okonomiyaki
Beyond the classic mixed okonomiyaki packed with squid, shrimp, and pork, the menu branches out into distinct flavor combinations. The suji-negi version features simmered beef tendon and konjac, available with either a soy-sauce or classic brown-sauce seasoning, delivering a savory punch that pairs naturally with a drink. Other inventive takes include an Akashi takoyaki-style pancake made with octopus and green onions served alongside savory dashi broth, a refreshing rendition tossed with perilla leaves and tiny dried fish finished with soy sauce and lemon, and an "Ome-Cheese" pancake loaded with cheese, corn, and a white sauce.
Savory Noodles and Recommended Small Plates
The noodle selection is equally broad. Alongside staples such as classic sauce yakisoba and salt-seasoned yakisoba, the kitchen prepares sobameshi—fried noodles tossed together with rice—as well as spicy kimchi yakiudon and mentaiko yakiudon. Diner reviews highlight the mentaiko dashimaki tamago (rolled omelet with spicy cod roe), and the assortment of small side dishes remains accessible and reasonably priced, pairing easily with draft beer, highballs, and assorted chuhai.
Misono does not charge a table cover (otoushi), providing a comfortable setting where orders are taken directly from your seat. Operating hours run from 17:00 to 23:00 in the evening, and payment is strictly cash only, making it wise to prepare yen in advance before dropping in.
